Frequently asked questions
What is DictateHub?
A professional dictation recorder for iPhone and iPad that attaches structured metadata ("index fields") to every recording and exports it to the destination of your choice. See the home page for a full overview.
Where are my recordings stored?
On your device, until you export them. DictateHub does not upload your recordings to our servers — we don't operate any. See the Privacy Policy.
How do index fields get filled in?
Manually, from a default value, from a per-recording prompt, by scanning a barcode, or by looking the value up in your own database.
How does database lookup work?
DictateHub connects directly to an endpoint you configure — a REST API, a REST proxy, or a direct Postgres/MySQL connection — to fetch field values or a work queue. Your credentials are stored in the device Keychain and are never sent to us.
Which export destinations are supported?
Local folder, iCloud Drive, the Files app, S3-compatible storage (AWS S3, MinIO, Cloudflare R2, Backblaze B2, Wasabi, DigitalOcean Spaces), and handoff to another app via a URL scheme.
My S3 / MinIO upload fails — why?
Endpoints must use HTTPS. Plaintext
http:// endpoints are blocked by iOS App Transport Security. Point your storage at an HTTPS endpoint (self-hosted MinIO supports TLS). Also confirm your bucket, region, and access keys are correct. Can I use it hands-free?
Yes — DictateHub supports HID/Bluetooth foot pedals for record, stop, and quick-export.
What's free, and what needs Pro?
Recording, barcode scanning, manual/templated index fields, and core export are free. DictateHub Pro unlocks database lookup, the work queue, foot-pedal control, and advanced destinations (iCloud, S3-compatible, custom).
How do I manage or cancel my subscription?
On your device: Settings → your name → Subscriptions → DictateHub. Subscriptions are managed by Apple; deleting the app does not cancel them.
How do I restore a purchase?
In the app's paywall or onboarding upgrade screen, tap Restore Purchases.
What iOS version do I need?
iOS 18 or later, on iPhone or iPad.
